From Dr. Heins:
WHY ANOTHER PARENTING BOOK? This one is DIFFERENT.
Instead of traditional book chapters my new book contains 46 ParenTips.
Each ParenTip lists
WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO right up front followed by the text. If
the Parentip makes sense a busy parent can stop reading then and there.
Need more information? Keep reading? Still curious? The book has an
annotated bibliography for further reading.
This approach makes ParenTips short and user friendly.
How did I decide which 46? You, the parents, decided for me. I
tabulated the questions asked by parents and grandparents and teachers
at my workshops and lectures as well as those sent by readers of my
column. ParenTips contain the skills and strategies to solve the most
common parenting challenges.

TWO ARIZONA BLACK BIRDS
Dear Reader,
My late husband wrote a childrens book based on his observations of two species of birds in the Tucson desert. I am pleased to make his book available to my readers.
From the press release:
Two Arizona Black Birds, by the late Milton Lipson, DVM, illustrated by Arizona Daily Star Editorial Cartoonist David Fitzsimmons, is an engaging, sweet-spirited story about two familiar Sonoran birds. Young birdwatchers will absorb an important message about tolerance and respect
for varied gifts while learning about two of common local species, the native phainopepla and the European starling.
The birds are brought to cocky, individual life in Fitzsimmons’ bright, lively illustrations, while the easy-to-read text subtly (and painlessly) imparts important basic principles of biology and animal behavior, and clearly communicates the fascination of observing nature. Any child who is interested in animals – and what child isn’t? – will love Two Arizona Black Birds.
“Doc” Lipson, a retired veterinarian and life-long lover of nature, died in 2007 at the age of 87. He was awarded an M.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science by the University of Arizona in 1985, and enjoyed writing about animals, in part, for the entertainment of his grandchildren. His wife, Marilyn Heins, MD, edited the manuscript and enlisted the talents of David Fitzsimmons as illustrator. A portion of profits from the sales of Two Arizona Black Birds will benefit the OMA (Opening Minds Through the Arts) Foundation which supports the OMA program in the Tucson Unified School District., an innovative arts integration program that helps improve academic achievement in elementary school children.
